About Us: Colonial Gardens, located in Blue Springs, MO, was added to our brand family in 2016. Founded in 1969, renovations began in 2017 to create an agritourism destination. It is the garden center, reimagined! We offer a greenhouse, nursery, café and coffee shop, event space, and farmer’s market. It’s where plants, food and farms connect. Educational classes promoting local agriculture and sustainability as well as private events are also offered.

This is a full-time role in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Salary Range: $60k-$70k

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accounting: Accountable for the accuracy of the general ledger and ensure full compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to evaluate and monitor the financial performance of the site. Prepare and analyze the monthly financial reports and provide performance context and explanation for variances.
  • Human Resources: Act as a resource for hiring managers in the ADP recruitment process for tier 1-2 positions. Lead and conduct the onboarding process for all new employees. Maintain employee information accurately in ADP and assist all employees with benefits and policy questions. Assure safety training is provided to all employees and coordinate worker’s comp cases.

Essential Job Duties:

Accounting:

  • Ensure there is an accurate and complete record of all financial transactions for the business
  • Accountable for month-end close processes including payroll entries, depreciation, prepaids, intercompany, leases, adjusting entries, and other general ledger entries as needed
  • Reconcile all general ledger accounts monthly
  • Perform fluctuation/variance analysis monthly to identify variances to prior year and budget; initiate corrective action in cooperation with the Executive Director
  • Record cash collections, credit memos, and process bank deposits
  • Enter A/P invoices from suppliers and process payments
  • Reconcile customer and vendor accounts and ensure intercompany balances agree on a monthly basis
  • File periodic sales and use tax reports on time and maintain records for exempt customers
  • Provide site management team with weekly financial position information
  • Prepare financial statements for the month, quarter, and year and communicate those to site management team
  • Assist in conducting audits
  • Coordinate budgets with site Executive Director through collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data and making recommendations
  • Work with DCA Outdoor financial services team members on special projects as needed

Human Resources:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll to ensure all employees are paid accurately and timely. Work with managers on correcting timecards
  • Support recruitment efforts, to include ensuring hiring managers are reviewing candidate pipelines and approving the accuracy of offer letters for tier 1-2 positions/applicants in Applicant Tracking System
  • Partner with corporate recruiting to ensure the recruitment process is followed by all
  • Accurately maintain all employee information in ADP
  • Complete onboarding and off-boarding tasks
  • Ensure deadlines are being met for Human Resources areas such as compliance, employee management, payroll, worker's compensation, recruitment, safety, and employee benefits administration
  • Coordinate semi-annual performance reviews and ensure timely completion
  • Communicate and escalate employee relations issues to corporate HR in accordance with all company policies and procedures as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or related/relevant experience OR 5+ years' experience in accounting with high transaction volume
  • Required: Experience with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
  • Required: 2+ Human resources job experience
  • Preferred: QuickBooks experience
  • Preferred: Agribusiness experience highly desired
  • Preferred: Inventory knowledge
