About Us: Colonial Gardens, located in Blue Springs, MO, was added to our brand family in 2016. Founded in 1969, renovations began in 2017 to create an agritourism destination. It is the garden center, reimagined! We offer a greenhouse, nursery, café and coffee shop, event space, and farmer’s market. It’s where plants, food and farms connect. Educational classes promoting local agriculture and sustainability as well as private events are also offered.

  • This is a full-time role working at Colonial Gardens in Blue Springs, Missouri.
  • Hourly Range: $16.00-$18.00

Key Responsibilities:

  • Nursery Sales: Deliver outstanding customer service by actively engaging shoppers, recommending high-quality plants and gardening products, and highlighting features and benefits to encourage purchases. Use your expertise to upsell and cross-sell, creating a positive shopping experience that drives increased sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Product Knowledge: Proactively expand and deepen your understanding of plants, gardening products, and landscaping solutions to confidently recommend items that meet customer needs. Use your expertise to promote and upsell products, ultimately increasing sales and enhancing the customer’s purchasing experience.
  • Plant Quality: Assist in maintaining the health and vitality of all plants through regular watering, pruning, and inspections for pests or diseases. Ensure plants are properly cared for, healthy, well-maintained, and attractively presented to support high quality standards and a positive customer experience.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Greet customers promptly and courteously, actively listening to their needs to provide tailored recommendations and support sales growth
  • Help customers select healthy, vibrant plants and gardening products by inspecting stock and providing knowledgeable advice to ensure a positive shopping experience
  • Accurately process sales transactions, including upselling and cross-selling, while ensuring proper documentation and customer satisfaction
  • Assist with point-of-sale transactions and promote solutions such as the PlantRight Guarantee to enhance customer confidence and loyalty
  • Maintain the health and appearance of nursery stock through watering, pruning, and inspecting for pests or diseases
  • Support the organization and placement of products within the nursery department, following planograms and sales strategies
  • Assist in stocking, merchandising, and maintaining attractive product displays to maximize sales
  • Ensure retail displays and signage are current, accurate, and meet company standards, including printing and placing tags, signs, and POP materials
  • Help set up and maintain seasonal displays and landscape beds in collaboration with horticulturists and team members
  • Follow safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and equipment use, to maintain a safe work environment
  • Collaborate with team members and management to meet sales goals and uphold high standards of nursery operations
  • Support the Nursery Manager with tasks such as staff scheduling, training, and hiring as needed
  • Assist with signage, workshops, social media, and promotional activities to engage customers and support sales initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by offering personalized solutions and product recommendations
  • Support team efforts through cross-utilization in customer service, events, and other store activities
  • Keep the nursery area clean, organized, and hazard-free to create a welcoming environment

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cross train and work in other departments as needed
  • Participate in store events, promotional activities, and community outreach efforts to enhance customer engagement and support sales initiatives
  • Promote and foster company’s core values
  • Other job duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: Required: Strong knowledge of plants (tress & shrubs specifically) and a willingness to learn and expand expertise
  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required: Must have availability to work on weekends
  • Preferred: 1+ years working experience in retail, garden center, or a related industry
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture
